11th Faisal Cup 2016

Wow, how time flies…it only seems like yesterday when we launched our first Giving Tree project by sponsoring 1,000 caps for the 10th Faisal Cup 2015. A year has passed so quickly and the 11th Faisal Cup 2016 is already here, an annual netball and football tournament organised by the NGO Dignity for Children, for children from underprivileged backgrounds.

The Faisal Cup was birthed out of tragedy, to honour one of the students from the Dignity school, Faisal, who drowned while trying to fetch an old football he saw floating in the Gombak river in April 2006, just as the excitement surrounding the World Cup began to build. He gave up his life just for a chance to play with a RM20 ball. The Faisal Cup was initiated, to ensure that never again would a child lose their life over something that seems so small to us, but is so important to them.

This year we were very honoured when we were approached again be sponsors for the event and we sponsored the full set of uniform (football jersey, sport pants, sock and boots) for 3 of the participating teams. We spent an enriching Saturday morning with the 600 children from the 80 teams participating in the finals at SMK Raia Abdullah. The age groups of the teams spanned from the cute under-eights to the highly skilled under-eighteens. But young or old, the children all had fun playing and cheering their teammates on. The last football final match was for the under-eighteen teams, between Team Dignity and Team Ideas.

Dignity and Ideas, that is truly what Faisal Cup is about, what a fitting finale!
